We have chosen our teas very carefully according to impact and flavour. Here is our rationale for the ingredients in Aunt Vadge’s Tummy Tonic anti-bloat tea.

100 per cent certified organic ingredients

  • Organic Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum/zeylanicum)
  • Organic Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinalis)
  • Organic Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)
  • Organic Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
  • Organic Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)
  • Organic Peppermint (Mentha × piperita)

     Why we chose cinnamon
Cinnamon is a carminative and antispasmodic, which means it relaxes the gastrointestinal tract and allows the expulsion of painful or uncomfortable gas and reduces painful spasm. It was also chosen for its aromatic taste and slight sweetness.

     Why we chose dandelion root
Dandelion root has been traditionally used to relieve indigestion. It is a bitter and choleretic. Bitters stimulate gastric secretions, digestive enzymes and bile secretions, whilst choleretics stimulate bile production. In this way, bitters and choleretics enhance digestion.

     Why we chose fennel
Like cinnamon, fennel has carminative properties. It also has a pleasant, aromatic, slightly sweet taste that works well with the other aromatics in this brew.

     Why we chose liquorice
Liquorice contains glycyrrhizin, a sweet-tasting glycoside thats around 50 times as sweet-tasting as sugar, but it doesn’t act like a sugar, so poses no ill health affects. Liquorice also has a mild anise-like flavour that compliments the brew well.

     Why we chose lemon balm
Lemon balm reduces abdominal pain/discomfort and bloating via its carminative properties

     Why we chose peppermint
Peppermint is another carminative but it is also antispasmodic, helping to relieve gastrointestinal bloating and discomfort
