Aunt Vadge: cut over a vein – will it be ok?
Hello Aunt Vadge,
I have a question for you guys. I have a small cut but it looks pretty deep. I think it’s over a vein on the outer part of the vagina before the hole. What do you think I should do? The day I got it, it was bleeding pretty bad, but then it slowed down.
Now, it’s just bleeding a bit, and I’m supposed to get my period soon as well. If you could tell me what I should do, that would be great.

Thanks for your question.
Your cut sounds like it is more than just superficial, but if it seems to be healing, isn’t gaping open or causing you undue misery, don’t worry about it. Keep it clean, wash only with warm water once per day, smooth it with a very small amount of cold-pressed vegetable oil (coconut, olive, avocado) to keep it lubricated, and don’t irritate it – no sex, fingers, scratchy underwear, dry humping, douching, etc. Just leave it alone.
Minor cuts and tears can be encouraged to heal well with a moisturising vulva and vagina-friendly cuts cream.
If it doesn’t stop bleeding, starts to feel hot and infected, becomes painful or you get any other symptoms you wouldn’t expect from any other wound on any other part of your body, go and see a doctor immediately.
The area has a very rich blood supply, so hurting yourself somehow can result in a bit more bleeding than you might like, but wounds on the body heal up pretty fast and without undue scarring.
