Aunt Vadge: fingering scratch

TL;DR

A 19-year-old virgin experienced bleeding and burning after being fingered due to lack of lubrication and possibly a hymen tear. Aunt Vadge explains the common causes and advises on how to prevent discomfort and ensure a safer, more pleasurable experience.

Hi Aunt Vadge!

I’m 19 years old and I’m a virgin. Last time, my boyfriend was fingering me a bit too hard, but he didn’t go deep in my vagina, and I felt that I wasn’t perfectly lubricated. I had pain which I usually get when I masturbate, hardly, but the thing is after that I went to the bathroom and found out that I had a bleeding.

It was kind of fresh red blood, but it didn’t bleed after that. I felt a little burn at the opening of the vagina for the rest of the day. What happened? Is it a scratch? Or did my hymen tear?

Sincerely,

Hi there Scratched,

It sounds like you are onto it – lack of lubrication, fingering too hard, possibly hymen tear, probably a dose of both. If it was your hymen, then you probably stretched it a bit and it bled, which shouldn’t happen many more times; or you bled from rough fingering and not being lubricated enough, which as you may have seen on this site, very common (sadly).

Get a mirror and/or your camera and take some close-ups to see what you can see, if anything. It’s good to keep track of what everything looks like on your vulva, so you can tell when things go awry.

Read our guides on fingering, oral sex and sex, so you know what to expect from everything. You should NEVER hurt or bleed from being fingered (except of course if it is your hymen, but that won’t last long, and often doesn’t exist past puberty anyway). Read about they hymen here.

You will be fine. Read those articles with your boyfriend so you both know what to expect and how to be more gentle, turn you on more, and get more out of your fingerings!

Write back anytime.

Warmest regards,
Aunt Vadge
