Aunt Vadge: I gave my boyfriend a BJ, then about 20 minutes later his penis touched my vag – can I get pregnant?

Dear Aunt Vadge,

Last night I gave my partner a blow job, he came, cleaned up with tissue and then later, as things continued, his penis was rubbing up against my labia and near the vaginal opening. It’s hard for me to say how much time elapsed between him cleaning up and the contact but probably at least 15-30 minutes. Should I take Plan B just to be safe? My periods are irregular but it’s been 25 days since my last cycle. I’m not on birth control for a number of health reasons. I just want to know if I should go out and get a morning after contraceptive.

You would be amazed at the things I didn’t know that I should have until I started working on this website. I was shocked at my ignorance! You are not alone in not knowing.

There doesn’t really seem any need for you to take Plan B. Sperm don’t survive for very long outside of the vagina or penis, and having been cleaned up means that what wasn’t wiped away would have dried up. Dried sperm dies quickly.

It’s actually a great question, since nobody really tells you much about the life of sperm. It can last for days in the vagina, but mere minutes outside, in contact with air. Sperm are delicate little things.
