Aunt Vadge: I’m waiting for biopsy results – is there anything I can do in the meantime?

Hi there Aunt Vadge,

I had an abnormal pap smear and then two biopsies done of my vagina. Do you know if there are any natural cures or supplements that may be useful for me? I’m waiting for results.

Yours,

Hi there Waiting,

Until you get your results back, there is nothing that we can recommend unfortunately, since we don’t know what is happening to you – the results might come back clear! Once you have a diagnosis from the biopsies, your doctor will have some solutions for you that you can the investigate – usually that will involve waiting six months and retesting, or going ahead with the LEEP or LLETZ procedure.

It can be really nerve wracking waiting for results. The best advice I can give you is to investigate all the possibilities based on what your doctors suspect is going wrong so that you can ask good questions about your diagnosis and treatment. I am going to assume that you mean your cervix was biopsied, since getting an abnormal pap smear means your cervical cells were abnormal, not your vaginal cells (they are different). If they have caught your abnormal cells early, there is a very good chance they will perform a procedure to remove the affected cells from your cervix, and you will be just fine.

That’s the point of pap smears – they catch abnormal cells really early, so treatment is mild, minor, and leaves you completely fine, fertile, and your cervix intact.

Read our article about HPV and pap tests so you understand more about what’s happening to you, and read as much as you can. Additionally, we have more information on diagnostic procedures/testing here.

Write anytime.

Warmest regards,
Aunt Vadge
