Aunt Vadge: can fingering affect your body?

TL;DR

Fingering, a common sexual activity, does not affect your body’s functions like menstruation but can cause vaginal pain if done roughly. It’s important to understand the basics for safe exploration. Hormonal changes before your period can cause cravings and other premenstrual symptoms, unrelated to sexual activities.

Hi Aunt Vadge,

My boyfriend fingered me (no sperms on his hand). It started to hurt a few minutes later.

I’m supposed to get my period but it hasn’t come yet. And I get cravings a lot.

Does fingering affect your body?

Sincerely,
Affected

Dear Affected,

Fingering does not affect your body, but it can affect your vagina – that’s why your vagina started to hurt. The pain was due to you allowing your boyfriend to be too rough on you. (You could both benefit from reading Fingering Basics.)

Fingering cannot change the function of your body, like when you get your period, or your digestion, or anything else. It is a physical activity, like getting a massage or scratching an itch.

When you are about to get your period, your hormones are changing and cravings can be a premenstrual symptom. There are many that can – and will, over your lifetime – happen, like tender breasts, mood changes, and bloating.

You may not get all of them, or all of them at once, and because your body changes over time, the signs of your period may come and go.
