Condyloma lata (syphilis-related genital warts)

TL;DR

Condyloma lata are wart-like growths associated with the secondary stage of syphilis, found on the genital and anal regions. These highly infectious lesions are characterized by their red, mushroom-like appearance and can be a sign of a more serious underlying condition. Understanding their presentation and implications is crucial for effective management and prevention.

Condyloma means wart (or in Greek, ‘knob’), but it is specific to the genitals. Condyloma lata are specific to the secondary form of syphilis, and are located on the moist folds of the genitals and anus.

The warts are highly infectious, and are red, mushroom-like masses up to 3mm in diameter. The warts have a broad base, with eroded, flat surfaces.
