Feeling your cervix for signs of ovulation

If you don’t already know, learn how to find your cervix with your finger.

When you first start feeling your own cervix, you will not know whether it is low or high or somewhere in between. You have to look a few times during your cycle (and record it!) and practice over a few cycles so you become familiar.

Is my cervix high or low?

  • If your cervix is only a few inches from your vaginal opening, it means you are probably not ovulating.
  • If it’s high – deep in the vagina – you may be ovulating.
  • Keep a period tracker, so you are vaguely aware of when you are probably ovulating and keep a note.

Is my cervix soft or firm?

  • If the cervix is firm and tight, you probably are not ovulating. It may feel like the tip of your nose.
  • If the cervix feels soft and has a little give to it, you may be ovulating. It may feel like lips.

Is my cervix wet or dry?

  • When you are ovulating, the cervix will feel wet with your fertile cervical fluids, which will coincide with extra vaginal discharge.
  • Once you have ovulated, or before you have ovulated, the cervix will feel drier, until you get your period when it will feel wet again with menstrual blood.
