How girls masturbate

Girls masturbate by using their fingers or an object to stimulate their clitoris, vulva and/or vagina, for the sole purpose of sexual pleasure.

Oooh aah!

Masturbating

Girls masturbate for the same reasons as boys – to feel good and get off (come, orgasm), as stress relief and erotic enjoyment.

A scientific study found that both boys and girls take an average of four minutes to orgasm via masturbation, but some of us take less time and some of us significantly longer.

There are no rules! Do whatever you want.

The clitoris in masturbation

The clitoris is really big and has legs that wrap around the vaginal canal and go down into the body. The infamous and always unfindable ‘g-spot’ is likely just access to part of the clitoral structure via the vaginal canal.

When a girl masturbates, she may stimulate any area that feels good to her. Mainly the hot spots are the clitoral glans, which is the little button that sticks out the front of the vulva that we all think of as the only part of the clitoris.

She may rub her clitoris around in circles, or rub around the sides of her clitoris, or rub the whole vulva (labia, clitoris).

She may rub hard or soft, slow or fast, with saliva or some kind of lubrication, likely using a combination of strokes.

As she approaches orgasm, she will probably rub harder and faster, as the clitoral tissue swells and plumps, much like an erection, until orgasm.

Stimulating inside the vagina during masturbation

A girl may also penetrate herself with her fingers or an object like a dildo, (though many objects can be used – just don’t use sharp things, glass or anything jagged). A carrot or cucumber can come in handy in a pinch!

The object, a size of her choice, will stimulate the parts of the vaginal canal that get to her deeper clitoral structures.

Not everyone likes penetration, and a lot of girls stimulate just their clitoris and have very satisfying orgasms.

Dildos and vibrators and pillows and other stuff to masturbate with

Girls are much more likely to use dildos and vibrators than guys because of the deep clitoral structures. Dildos come in many shapes and sizes, and it can take a little while financially to try them all!

Penises aren’t the only shapes that satisfy those girls who like penetration, and there are many small and large devices, battery-powered and not, that get girls off.

Some girls rub themselves on pillows or cushions or other soft, shimmery or slippery fabrics. Each girl is different in how she masturbates and there are no right or wrong ways. Just right or wrong for her.

Orgasms via masturbation

Once she has orgasmed, she will probably feel satisfied, and the masturbating event is over, but many girls can have more than one orgasm.

Sometimes girls masturbate but don’t orgasm – it’s just fun and feels nice. There are no rules about orgasms or masturbating.

How often do girls masturbate?

How long is a piece of string? Some girls masturbate every day (twice!) and some never do it, but most girls masturbate sometimes.

It’s normal and extremely common for girls to masturbate. Many girls report masturbating about once a week, and some twice a day. There are no rules – everyone should masturbate exactly as often as they like.

What age do girls start masturbating?

Some girls start really early, when they are kids, and some don’t start until later in life when the urge strikes.

When in her life a girl starts masturbating will depend on many factors, including:

  • How often and strongly the thoughts or urges are
  • Being physically able to masturbate

Frequently asked masturbation questions

  1. No, you cannot get pregnant by masturbating.
(Read about when and how you can and can’t get pregnant)
  2. Yes masturbation is safe, and unless you are rough, you won’t hurt yourself.
  3. No, masturbating isn’t wrong – sexual expression is a basic human function, either alone or with a partner.
  4. Mutual masturbation means you do it with a friend, which can mean you do them and they do you, or you both do yourselves in front of each other.
  5. Masturbating doesn’t ‘take your virginity’ (but read this article about being a virgin).

What to do if you aren’t sure how to masturbate

Learning how to masturbate takes time and practice. You should try everything! There is no right or wrong, just what feels good today, and what doesn’t.

Each time you masturbate you may do it a bit differently, and when you first start out, this is exactly what you should do. It can really pay to see how other women masturbate as an example, and not a big show-off masturbate like in a porn film, but real masturbating by real women.

OMGYes is our favourite instructional guide on how to masturbate, but if you can’t afford the $50, you’ll need to use the other resources available on how to get yourself off.

OMGYes is useful because real women introduce themselves and explain to you in a non-sexual way exactly what techniques they use to masturbate. We see real vulvas and vaginas, and then you get to practice with feedback from the virtual reality version of the woman to help you get it right.

It’s fun to use and very educational, as opposed to watching someone masturbate, which can be a little confronting and not that educational with all that huffing and puffing and moaning.

Learning how to masturbate is a really personal thing, but it’s worth practising and getting the hang of. Masturbating is not necessarily the type of thing you will talk to your friends about, particularly techniques, so finding help online can be really useful.
