Aunt Vadge: why did it hurt after I fingered myself this time, but not other times?

Hi Aunt Vadge,

I fingered myself for the 4th time and was wet too, but after that it slightly hurts.

What should I do?

Waiting for your response.

Thanking you
Yours faithfully

Dear Hurting,

Sometimes we can inadvertently scratch ourselves when we use our fingers, and we don’t feel it because the inside of the vagina is actually not very sensitive. The vulva (labia), clitoris, and deeper tissue is, but the walls of the vagina have remarkably few nerve endings.

This just means sometimes we can nick the sides or hurt ourselves without really knowing about it, especially if we are turned on. A turned-on vagina swells up with blood, and so sort of cushions us against movements that would normally hurt us, and in fact it can feel good still!

When you first start using your vagina, you’ll have a period of discovery where you start to understand where the edges are – what feels good, what hurts, what makes you bleed.

Each vulva and vagina is a little bit different in this respect, so investigating where your vagina’s edges are is an important thing to do.

The only cause for concern would be if from now on every time you finger yourself, you get sore – you just need to figure out what hurts and what doesn’t, even afterwards.

You can read about fingering basics to help you understand more, and check out your anatomy in Vag Basics.

So, you’ll be fine. The soreness will quickly disappear, and you should keep investigating your vagina. If you get sore after fingering, it’s because you are doing something to cause that, so while you are fingering, just be conscious of what you are doing.

Also, check your fingernails. The amount of damage done by a sharp fingernail can be enormous.

Write anytime!

Warmest regards,
Aunt Vadge
