Aunt Vadge: three small flesh-coloured growths under urethra – it’s been months!

TL;DR

A 26-year-old female describes noticing three small, flesh-coloured, rice grain-shaped growths under the urethra, seeking advice on their nature. The response emphasizes the importance of a medical examination for an accurate diagnosis, mentioning that such lumps are usually benign but require professional assessment to explore treatment options.

Dear Aunt Vadge,

I’m a 26-years-old, not-sexually-active female. I’ve noticed three small pimples just under my urethra and above the vaginal opening. They don’t look infected, they don’t hurt, and they aren’t round  – they look  more like a rice grain in shape and size, are soft and fleshy and pretty much the same color as the area. It’s been a few months, and while they aren’t getting bigger, but they aren’t going away either. I’m going to take a doctor’s appointment in the near future, but I would like to get an idea of what it could be, as nothing I looked up on the web seems to fit.

Best,

Hi there Bumpy,

Without examining you, it is very hard to know exactly where you are referring to. We have a list of lumps and bumps and their possible causes, though this is specifically for the vulva (and may not include the vestibule, if this is where your growths are) so have a read through and see if anything rings any bells with your symptoms.

You do need to be examined for a proper diagnosis. Usually lumps that appear like that are harmless and benign, and nothing to worry about, but it definitely pays to know an exact diagnosis so you can look through your treatment options – if necessary.

You can also try to send through a photograph (which will not be published) so we can have a better look, though if you already have an appointment, you are actually just better off using your doctor’s expertise.

Write anytime!

Warmest regards,
Aunt Vadge
