Vulvovaginal-gingival syndrome is a variety of lichen planus (LP) that is characterised by the loss of cells on the outer layer of the vulva, vagina and gingiva. This variety is considered very rare, with the largest study group being 22 women.
Gingival LP was found in all the 22 women, with erosive lesions in many. Vulvovaginal lesions were found in most of the women.Treatment was reasonably successful, however it must be noted these were management strategies only, and the disease was not cured. Beneficial results were found with a variety of different therapeutic agents.
